Any place but Medieval Manor in Boston. We went there a few years ago dressed in our mundane clothing (peasant) and we were overdress compared to the staff. There was no attempt to speak in the "Queen's English" and the show had nothing to do with Medieval Times.

I live right down the road from the castle...very regular and high prices. We took my daughter there for her birthday a few years ago. I felt the only thing rennie about it was the exterior. The staff weren't dressed in garb, no "Queens speech" But I guess it's not the place it's the people, and it's 15 minutes from my house! How do they feel about us dressing?

Since NERennies is an actual business and an organization that we would like to promote in a positive manner I think we absolutely SHOULD care how they feel about us showing up in garb. Lets be honest here.... you go into an upper scale (look at their menu prices) restaurant and piss them off you they WILL tell all of their friend about it and their friends will tell friends and so on. Doesn't make for very good PR for NERennies. The Garb and weapons issues will most certainly be addressed with management prior to the event so people feel confident knowing that *everyone* is ok with us being in garb.
To answer your question Lord Charles, many establishments don't care if we join them in garb but some most certainly do.
King Aiden, since a good majority of the NER members are from the more southern areas of New England, specifically MA and CT, that is where people tend to look when setting up events. Fear not though, as we had our last year's fundraiser dinner in Western MA, I will be doing what I can to make sure it is closer to the North again this year.

I agree Bows and blades are best left home aside from, perhaps, the traditional Sgian dubh. This is just a matter of common sense. As much as I love wearing my blades, the rripping hazard and need to constantly be aware of where (or who) it might be poking would be more of a pain than going without.
As for going in garb, I'd like to think any Ren style resterant would enjoy and encourage its patrons to come in garb. What fun would the ren faires be if folks other than cast were not allowed or encouraged to dress the part? Either way, we are there to have fun!

Yes I agree weapons should stay home. As far as garb I don't see a problem. Most folks who are non rennies dress stranger than we do to go to a nice up scale restraunt and our garb is much more finer and much more expensive. I think it would be a refreshing change for the chosen place to see folks come out in finery such as we all have. But yes I do agree with Kalea we should ask anyway.

Hotels in the area seems affordable. The La Quinta Inn in Auburn (only 4.6 miles from Leicester town center) has rates starting at $62. There are others as well, most starting around $100. If there are enough of us, maybe we could get a group discount. I did notice that all of the hotels were outside of Leicester in Auburn or Worcester.

Just piping up quickly on the garb issue for The Castle- i went to a wedding there a couple of years ago. It was a rennie wedding and we were (almost) all in garb. The staff was professional and courteous and did appreciate seeing us in our 'funny clothes,' so i don't think it would be a problem for us to garb up for our dinner.

i personally voted for The Castle. I've been to all three places and have enjoyed myself at all three.
King's Feast has been great but i feel like we may not get the best performance for our money because we know the cast and have interfered in the show.
Medieval Manor was fun, decent food, but almost NO parking and not everyone is as Boston-Road-Savvy as others are and therefore it can be very difficult to get to. Also, their staff aren't as courteous or as helpful as they could be.
The Castle had spectacular food, it's not too difficult to get to, the setting is beautiful, plenty of parking. I've already said my piece on their acceptance of garb (and we'd probably be in our own room anyway, so i'm not sure why that would matter) and their staff. The only real downside i can think of is that they don't have entertainment for us, but y'all are the most entertaining folk i know so i'm not worried.

Hey I am all for the Castle in Leicester... it's literally 10 minutes from my studio LOL! I attended a Rennie/Wiccan wedding there a couple years ago where everybody was in garb of some kind AND they performed the wedding ceremony on site, AND there was music and dancing, and it was just fine all around, nobody had any problems. In fact I would love to hold an event there someday myself.

If y'all want a show, I *personally* know some Rennie type bellydancers and musicians who I'm sure will be there anyway enjoying the party. [grin]

BTW, who do we pay and/or register with to go to this shindig?
